also being able to transfer those recordings to a supported Windows media player.
You can start using your TiVo DVR as a multimedia display server in about 10??“15
minutes.
Download the TiVo Desktop software from www.tivo.com/desktop. Install the
software, provide the Media Access Key from your TiVo DVR, and you are ready to select
and transfer any or all TiVo-stored programs to your PC, as shown in Figure 8-2.
You need plenty of free disk space on your computer because an hour of TiVo
content at High Quality makes TiVo files about 1.6GB in size. Each 1.6GB file takes

about 40 minutes to transfer across a typical home network. Select a recording to play,
or in Media Player create a playlist or sync an episode to your Windows-compatible
portable media player.
Step 3: Publish Computer-Based
Files to Play on Your TiVo
Your TiVo can play music and videos as well as display pictures you share from your
TiVo Desktop??“equipped PCs. This handy little feature sure beats dragging a PC into
the family room to have the relatives huddle around a 17??? screen to view your vacation
pictures, or jacking in to your stereo to play MP3s.
To let your TiVo solidify its place as home entertainment central, install the TiVo
Desktop software on any and all PCs that contain media files you want to share and
play on your TiVo-connected TV and stereo.
