enabled by default unless explicitly disabled. To check this, follow the instructions for
your operating system, provided next.

For XP:
Right-click My Network Places and choose Properties.
Locate and right-click your network adapter and choose Properties.
In the Properties dialog box for your network adapter, scroll to and doubleclick
the listing for Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
In the Properties dialog box for TCP/IP, click the Advanced button.
In the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box, click the WINS tab.
In the WINS properties, choose the Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP radio
button.
Click OK to close all of the dialog boxes and windows and then restart your
computer.
For Vista:
Right-click My Network places and choose Properties.
In the Control Panel double-click the Network and Sharing Center icon
window, in the left column click Manage Network Connections.
Locate and right-click your network adapter and choose Properties.
In the Properties dialog box for your network adapter, scroll to and doubleclick
the listing for Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
In the Properties dialog box for TCP/IP, click the Advanced button.
In the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box, click the WINS tab.
In the WINS properties, choose the Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP radio
button.
